Chuck Berger arrives on the Suns staff via a different path than most youth basketball coaches. Growing up in Hillside, NJ and Livingston, NJ, Chuck was an avid fan of the 1969-1973 NY Knicks who started his love for the game.  In 1973, he earned a spot on his 8th Grade roster solely due to hard work and effort rather than raw talent and athleticism.  Shortly thereafter, he became captivated by the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers University where he attended from 1978-1982. Chuck’s freshman year was the senior year for freshmen who played on the infamous 31-2 Final Four team.  He was a 20+ year R.U. season ticket holder facilitating a long term personal study of the game on an NCAA Division 1 College level.

Chuck’s leadership experience and training began his years at R.U. while leading and teaching trumpet players for the (then) Big 10 precision style R.U. Marching 100 before earning his B.S. degree in Management Science.  He also earned the 1981 R.U. Pep Band award for service to the organization whose primary function was service to the basketball team.

Years later, a new basketball chapter began for Chuck after starting a family with his loving wife Shelley, and eventually settling in Readington, NJ.  Followed by his younger child Rachel, his first born Justin developed an unexpected passion for the game and became the impetus that has lead Chuck down a long path to the Suns.

Chuck has assisted Coach L. Greg Smith and has served with several coaches on many different teams including both travel and AAU levels.  He has learned much under their tutelage and continues to be both a teacher and student of the game.  Chuck has joined Greg Smith’s team as a partner and Vice President with RADIANT  C.A.P., LLC.    It is the focus of social consciousness provided by Greg’s leadership and coaching philosophy that adds to Coach Berger’s pride in current and future service to the Radiant Suns basketball teams.
